Success. What does that word mean to you, and has it’s meaning ever changed for you?

Today I’m joined by a special guest as we consider the secret to success in both our personal and business life:

We believe success in any aspect of our lives is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we responds to what happens to us.

No one makes us have a ‘bad day’, we choose whether we have a bad day or not, we choose how we learn from and respond to our circumstances to become a better version of ourselves.

And remember, this isn’t just about ‘us’ or ‘self’, when Sir Roger Bannister achieved what was thought humanly impossible he opened a world of possibility for others too.

In summary, we can’t control what happens to us, so don’t waste energy on trying to control the uncontrollable. Instead focus your energy on what will give you a positive ROI for you, and in doing so, you’ll not only achieve success for yourself, but open a world of possibilities for others too.

Things Successful People Don’t Say… https://digilifeenabled.com/things-successful-people-dont-say/ Wed, 15 Jul 2020 09:46:18 +0000 https://digilifeenabled.com/?p=4502

Your thoughts lead to your feelings, your feelings become your actions and your actions become your results.

In other words…our words become actions, which eventually become your destiny.

It’s interesting how successful people are intentional about the words they speak, to themselves and to others.

The fact is, regardless of how you may define success, your words (those that you say to yourself as well as those you say out loud to other people) will help turn that vision into your reality.

Now there are many articles written on what successful people do say and don’t do, but today I’d like to share with you 6 things that successful people don’t say and don’t do…

1. “That’s impossible”
Interestingly, unsuccessful people are always pointing out what is not possible. To them the glass is always half empty, they live in a world of impossibilities; they have a can’t-do attitude, so they say: “I can’t” or “that can’t be done” or “that’s impossible.”
Not only are these words self-limiting, others perceive them as pessimistic, non-constructive, even defeatist.
Achievers know there are countless roadblocks on the road to success — barriers that may stall or stump, but never stop them.
They either remove the barrier, or figure out a way to go over, under, or around it.
So successful people say: “I have a choice,” “Here are our options,” or, “Let’s imagine all the possibilities.”

2. “I can do it all myself”
Successful people know the importance of getting a good team around them to triangulate, orientate and see through different eyes. They also recognise that if they’re the smartest person in their team they’re in trouble.

3. “It’s not fair.”
Everyone knows that life isn’t fair. Saying it’s not fair suggests that you think life is supposed to be fair and shows you don’t really have a handle on how things work.
Successful people are successful because when the odds are against them they choose to persevere despite things being unfair, rather than complaining and giving up.

4. “I’ll give it a try.”
The phrase sounds tentative and suggests you lack confidence in your ability to execute the task.
Take full ownership of your capabilities.
If you’re asked to do something, either commit to doing it or offer an alternative, but don’t say that you’ll ‘give it try’ because it sounds like you won’t try all that hard.

5. “I already know that”
This phrase is a sign of pure defensiveness — it means you’ve stopped seeking to learn and grow and have become more interested in being perceived as all knowing.
It’s one thing to speak knowledgeably about a topic and add insight; but there’s always more to learn and even if you “know it” are you using your knowledge, are you implementing it?

Remember to admit you’ve learned something new is simply to admit you’re wiser today than you were yesterday.

6. “Hey! Let me tell you what I’ve just heard about John…”
Successful will warn you about dangerous behaviours, but they don’t gossip, and they avoid words of judgment, insult and negativity.
If they can’t say something good about someone they don’t say anything

The bottom line:
Think about the things you say to yourself and to others that you need to stop saying. Then stop saying them!

Eliminating these words or phrases from your vocabulary will pay dividends.

The problem is they have a tendency to sneak up on us, so we’re going to have to speak to ourselves until we’ve solidified the habit of not saying them.

Here’s to your success

Health, Wealth & Prosperity https://digilifeenabled.com/health-wealth-prosperity/ Fri, 15 May 2020 14:05:00 +0000 https://digilifeenabled.com/?p=4541

It’s interesting to look at the root of where our words come from, it gives us an understanding of what was originally intended by the use of the word.

Take the word ‘Wealth’ for example. Now, in 2020 most people associate wealth with bank balance. However, that’s a corruption of the original intent, because it’s origins are linked to our ‘well-being’ and ‘health’ not money.

Whilst having more in your bank balance can of course lead to more health and well-being through wise choices and a life of integrity, we believe true wealth is not just about your bank balance. In fact, some of the richest people we’ve ever met never even had a bank account to their name.

Where is your treasure?

We also believe where your treasure is, there your heart will be also and that in turn will impact your thoughts, behaviours and well-being. So a question we all need to ask ourselves is; where and what is our treasure?

Gratitude is Gold

We’ve found an attitude of gratitude is a form of treasure that supports well-being. Yes, gratitude really is GOLD.

Studies show that greater health and happiness is measurable in those who practice gratitude over those who focus on negative aspects, even to the extent that there is a change in the brain’s neuroplasticity, just do a google search to see. But how do we develop an attitude of gratitude especially in times of crisis?

3 Steps to GOLD

So there are some simple steps we can all take to develop an attitude of gratitude that contributes to our wealth. Please watch the short video below to learn three steps you can take right now toward an attitude of gratitude that can help you in your business, family and personal life:

What can you do? Do what you can. https://digilifeenabled.com/what-can-you-do-do-what-you-can/ https://digilifeenabled.com/what-can-you-do-do-what-you-can/#respond Sun, 23 Feb 2020 17:37:00 +0000 https://digilifeenabled.com/?p=4439

What can you do?

Do what you can.

“If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
Dr Martin Luther King Jr

Growing up, the words, but perhaps more importantly, the life of Dr Martin Luther King Jr challenged and shaped my world view. Maybe you’ve been challenged by the likes of Luther King too?

Maybe you’ve heard his popular quote above?

It teaches us that no matter where you are in your journey to success, there is always some kind of action you can take to move forward. I share something more of that perspective in this short video:

For example; if you don’t have any money to start your business right now, you can still plan your future budget, or even design a business logo or website.

If you’re stuck in a job you don’t like, you can build up your CV/resume, or network with professionals in your area to learn about job opportunities.

If you’re like me, maybe you feel that small steps don’t feel as satisfying as big leaps, but Luther King showed us that any progress is better than no progress. So do what you can do today to get closer to your goals, whether it’s fly, run, walk, or crawl… and you will get to where you want to be.

I’d like to conclude with a lesser known quote of Luther King:

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

To me that is equally as powerful as the first quote, because many people measure success from a perspective of Return On Investment (ROI) based on our actions, but fail to consider COI – Cost Of Inaction because of our silence.

So what matters most to you?

If no one was looking, who would you really want to be?

Are you being silent about that which really matters to you?

Make time today to reflect on how you can you give greater priority to that which matters most to you in the week ahead.

What Is Your Business About? https://digilifeenabled.com/what-is-your-business-about/ Sun, 29 Dec 2019 20:24:00 +0000 https://digilifeenabled.com/?p=4414

I find so many in business are unsatisfied with simply selling ‘stuff’.

Sure, we need to sell ‘stuff’ to keep the bread on the table, but what if there was more to business, more to life, than just selling ‘stuff’?

What if our business, what if our life, was about living out our values so as to make a difference in this world while at the same time providing for those we are responsible for?

One of the reasons we sign post people to the business start up programmes at SFM is because, having been through the system ourselves, and having met with the founders and lead team, we’ve seen it’s not about getting people to sell stuff.

Sure, there are some ready made resources for newbies starting out with to sell if they choose to, and as newbies we found that really helpful as we had nothing to sell, but it’s not about that.

The core of the SFM programme is about helping people understand their Vision, Mission, Purpose and Values, so they can become the best version of themselves in business and in life whether they choose to sell SFM stuff or not.

There’s very few programmes that offer that support.

Take SFM student, Rob Sewell as an example. I shared something of Rob’s transformation from Drug & Alcohol abuse to six figure business owner here:

In going through the SFM programme Rob now appreciates:

1. The impact of speaking truth & empowering others
2. The hardships he’s overcome and how they’ve helped him find his true purpose
3. How the experiences you go through forge your values
4. How he’s stepped into his purpose and launched his own coaching business

Rob now seeks to serve others by acting as a guiding light that shows people a space where they feel safe and understood.

Rob’s Vision, Mission, Purpose & Values

And while no income is guaranteed by any programme, after pinpointing his purpose with SFM, Rob’s income through his online business is such that it allows him the financial freedom to take each Friday off to volunteer with those who are struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, and given him the time freedom he so longed for with his family that his corporate job never gave him.

So, in the week ahead, perhaps you can reflect on what your business is about and whether it’s aligned to your true purpose?

Ruth & I have both been humbled by individuals we’ve met from around our world, refugees, orphans and others, who despite loosing everything in a material sense, still find something to be grateful for, so much so, that we are the ones who feel poor in their presence. We hope from this video you will see that even by having the capacity to watch a video on youtube, we’ve all so much to be grateful for, and that an attitude of gratitude is a treasure worth investing in.

The Truth About Honesty https://digilifeenabled.com/the-truth-about-honesty/ Mon, 01 Apr 2019 10:17:44 +0000 https://digilifeenabled.com/?p=4118

I was on a call this week with one of the other SFM members, Rob Sewell, who really shared from the heart about how learning to live a life of honesty has turned his personal and business life around.

Please click here to hear more in a video I shot for you:

Here’s the notes I took from Rob’s call which I share in the video above. I trust they inspire you just as they inspire me:

“We talk about being authentic here in SFM, well in my experience that all starts with honesty.

A couple of years ago I couldn’t have been further away from that.

My transformation in life has been quite remarkable and it all started with honesty.

It is the foundation of my recovery from Drug and alcohol addiction, and has been instrumental in building my SFM affiliate business to 5 figures a month.

Honesty is not just about telling the truth. It’s about being real with yourself and others about who you are, what you want and what you need to live your most authentic life.

Honesty promotes openness, empowers us and enables us to develop consistency in how we present the facts. Honesty sharpens our perception and allows us to observe everything around us with clarity.

The stress in our lives comes not from the environment, but from the self-built jail of the mind. What keeps us in our self-built jails is lying, mostly to ourselves.

I want to provide people with the tools we can use to escape from that jail of the mind. Facing up to what you have avoided leads to a huge release of emotion which then leads to a state of overflowing creativity.

To be able to create you must be able to tell the truth. Telling the truth frees us from the entrapment of the mind.

We all lie to others for personal gain or to excuse or misrepresent our own shortcomings, but the worst type of lying we practice, is when we lie to ourselves.

We convince ourselves we are not good enough or able to do something our heart was really set on.

It sets us back by delaying the pursuit of our goals and dreams. It takes away our ability to take chances that our heart is willing to take but our mind is blocking us from taking.

Despite its temptation, ease of use and false promises, lying gets us nowhere in the end.

So, do you want to be one of the most respected, highly thought of people among your social sphere and your business?

Honesty should be the bedrock of your foundation, as it will define who you are before you even allow others to know more about you.

Honesty helps you find the answers you’re looking for.

Honesty gets you where you want to go faster because you live how you really feel.

You may not always know what you want in your future, but your intuition will give you a feel for what is in harmony with your heart.

Start today, first, by being as honest as you can with yourself. Be honest about your thoughts, words, actions and wants.

Then, think about your interaction with society, your personal relationships, and your customers.

Are you letting people know your true self?

If not, what are you afraid of?”

Rob Sewell

Can you remember the first time you flew?

The feeling of excitement and anticipation of being in a completely new place?

The feeling of leaving the security of the ground behind, the feeling of “Should I really be doing this?”

Flying for the first time is a lot like creating your own online business, launching a start-up, or establishing a nonprofit organisation. Stepping out from your ‘norm’ requires overcoming the very real fear of leaving the safety of solid ground behind, defying gravity, and taking a path of unexpected variables toward your destination.

Let’s face it, it requires courage.

Did you ever wonder what the Wright brothers had on their minds and in their hearts that caused them to build a machine heavy enough to hold people yet light enough to fly through the air?

What compelled them to utilise scrap materials (from a bicycle shop of all places!) to build wings that would forever change the world?

What drove them to try and fail and try some more and to keep trying time and time again when not only friends were against them, but even when the wind was against them?

Whatever it was, their passion for innovation, underpinned by perspiration, resulted in aviation!

The Wright brothers knew the laws of gravity worked against them. They knew that people thought they were crazy for even trying to create a flying machine that could soar through the skies above everyone else. However, they persevered, refusing to give up until they discovered new laws, principles of aerodynamics that enabled a craft of a certain weight traveling at a certain velocity to gain momentum and catch flight. These pioneers of the skies created a new norm, so life-changing that it transformed the way we live our lives today.

My Father’s life was saved last month because of an Air Ambulance. I’m thankful the Wright Brothers didn’t give up on their dream. Who could suffer if you give up on yours?

Now maybe you aren’t interested in building a flying machine, but in essence the Wright brothers’ aspiration is the goal of every entrepreneur; “What do you need to build in order to get up there into the sky of economic viability?”

How can you take what you have and escape the gravitational pull of a salary that limits your ability to escape from living paycheck to paycheck?

At the end of the day, the same courage and perseverance that fuelled the Wright brothers is what will determine the direction of your own dreams. It is the power of a transformative belief that says: “Just because I haven’t seen it modelled in my past doesn’t mean that I cannot create something that changes the direction of my future.”

Simply put, it is the power to make the seemingly impossible dream that’s been placed in your heart and mind become your new reality.

One of the voluntary activities I’ve been involved in over the years as a Chartered Scientist is to act as a Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) Ambassador in Schools. The idea being, as practitioners, we can bring real world STEM examples from industry into the class rooms to inspire students with real world application of classroom theory.

Generally when I go into a school and ask “Who likes Science & Math?” very few hands go up.

“OK, so who likes making paper aeroplanes?” all hands go up.

So we make aeroplanes on A4 sheets with a template printed on them for the students to fold in certain ways. We then take their final aeroplanes and let them launch them from a special electric powered launcher which fires the aeroplane at a speed of 70mph. If the students have got the folds in the template right, the plane will travel from one end of a Basketball court into the wall on the opposite side of the court (~100ft).

Sometimes the folds aren’t right so the planes don’t make it the length of the court, or go off to one side. But that’s fine, we simply readjust the folds to optimise the product, then fire again.

At the end of the session I’ll explain to the students the principles they used to fly their product were all based on Science & Math. Then I’ll ask them the same question I asked them at the start of our session; “Who likes Science & Math?”, this time every hand goes up.

Why the sudden change in the students response?

They’d simply experienced the real world application of what was otherwise bland theory.

Here at Digi Life Enabled we want to encourage people to fulfil their dream, their purpose, through a life of integrity and sign post people to training and skills that can help them realise that.

We recognise when starting something new, there’s both excitement and fear, we recognise courage and perseverance is required to get a break through, and we recognise the need for pragmatic real world training and coaching, not just bland theory.

On my journey to setting up an online business I came across Tim Low from Singapore. The thing that appealed to me about Tim was that replacing his six figure lawyers income through his online business didn’t make him go out and buy the latest fast car, but rather, gave him the time and financial freedom to volunteer in his local community, serving the Church as a Bereavement Counsellor, something that the time demands of the legal profession could not afford him.

As someone who has self-funded overseas missions and aid trips to vulnerable people groups, the business model that enabled Tim to make this transition really appealed to me.

What I also like about Tim is his honesty about his struggles. Tim like me admits that one of the most challenging things to deal with when transitioning from the corporate salary world, to the online entrepreneur world is the issue of ‘mindset’.

I know it sounds a bit ‘fluffy’, but when you’ve spent most of your life in corporate institutions, they do leave a mark on you and that can hold you back from stepping out into any new venture, including the the online world. That’s why having access to mentors on that journey, who are walking the trail with you, is such a valuable asset.

Anyway Tim shared this recent message which you can listen to in less than 2 minutes about keeping things simple as a means to success (click on image below to watch):

You see, many of us don’t get started at fulfilling our dreams, passions or business strategy because we over complicate things. But the truth is Tim & I only got started in online business by taking small simple steps with mentors on hand to advise us as we needed that guidance.

So if you’re interested in learning more about the exact same online business and education system that Tim & I used to start up our own businesses from scratch, then why not set up your own FREE TRIAL account by clicking here.

This week I wanted to share a thought with you about the Mind-Body Connection.

Did you know it’s only since the middle ages that the mind, body and spirit have been considered separate?

Before that, we were considered whole integrated people.

Writing as I am from the UK, it’s noticeable how our Western culture has been influenced by reductionism – splitting into parts and specialisation. Each aspect is now cared for separately: surgeons for the physical, psychiatrists for the mental and clergy for the spiritual.

Matters of health tend to be viewed by many as purely physical however, it’s not that simple. For example, the Reticular Activating System connects the cortex and the sub-brain; physical stimulation affects the mind and mental stressors affect the body, generating physical responses. In other words, our physical state of health affects our mental health and vice-versa.

Let us look for a moment at what we think, believe and meditate on and it’s relation to our physical state.

The belief of the mind has enormous influence over our physical abilities to the extent that sports psychology is the determining factor in many athletes physical performance.

Most people know the basic story of Roger Bannister, who, on May 6, 1954, broke the 4 minute mile with a time of 3 minutes 59 seconds. But what many people forget is that runners had been chasing the goal seriously since at least 1886 and that the challenge involved the most brilliant coaches and gifted athletes in North America, Europe, and Australia. For years runners had been striving against the clock, but the elusive four minutes had always beaten them to the extent that it had become as much a psychological barrier as a physical one.

When Bannister eventually broke the record, even his most ardent rivals breathed a sigh of relief. At last, somebody did it! And once they saw it could be done, they did it too. Only 46 days after Bannister’s feat, John Landy, an Australian runner, broke the barrier again, with an even faster time of 3 minutes 58 seconds! Then, just a year later, three runners broke the four-minute barrier in a single race. Over the last half century, more than a thousand runners have conquered a barrier that had once been considered hopelessly out of reach (the current record is 3 minutes 43 seconds).

Many studies have reviewed this phenomena of a sudden surge of success in the physical realm. They concluded that a positive mindset based on a belief of what could be possible is actually what helped those runners beat that record.

So does that mean we can all run a sub-4 minute mile if we simply believe it?

No. Because as whole integrated people there are other factors around health and fitness we also need to take into consideration. It does mean, however, that when it comes to success and wellbeing, in whatever sphere of life, what we think, believe and meditate on is key.

So, take control of those limiting thoughts that come your way; remember you have a purpose in this world that you can fulfil through a life of integrity.

If you have a dream in your heart, you don’t have to work out every detail of it before you take your first step. Instead, take one small step today and leave the other steps for tomorrow. Focus on what you can do now. Believe you will succeed and you will!

Here’s to fulfilling your dream!

Ruth
